Big Data Expo 2025 Outlines Digital Economy Innovation Landscape

The China International Big Data Industry Expo 2025 (Big Data Expo 2025) commenced in Guiyang, Guizhou, on August 28. This year's expo, themed "Data Drives Industrial Momentum, Intelligence Unlocks the Future," is set to host 26 exchange activities and 34 special events. Over 16,000 guests have registered to attend, with 375 Chinese and foreign enterprises participating as exhibitors.

This year's Big Data Expo comprises six major thematic pavilions: Digital Intelligence Leadership, Digital Intelligence Infrastructure, Digital Intelligence Services, Digital Intelligence Application, Digital Intelligence Innovation, and Digital Intelligence Experience. These pavilions will showcase a host of new technologies, products, and applications in the digital economy, alongside a series of exchange activities, competitions, and business negotiations.

From the implementation of national strategies to enterprise technological breakthroughs, the diverse innovative achievements showcased at the expo vividly outline the nation's digital economy innovation landscape: one built on computing power, empowered by application scenarios, and strengthened by ecosystem synergy.

In the crucial domain of computing power infrastructure, a core foundation of the digital economy, China has not only achieved significant breakthroughs in scale but has also undertaken profound initiatives in technological innovation and platform development.

"Currently, China's total intelligent computing capacity stands at 780,000 PFlops, placing it second globally," Liu Liehong, Administrator of the National Data Administration (NDA) announced at the opening ceremony. He added that the eight national hub nodes have amassed over 60% of new computing power, with their intelligent computing capacity reaching 620,000 PFlops, representing about 80% of the national total. Furthermore, data center construction and operational costs in western regions are roughly 50% to 70% of those in eastern areas. In 2024, Guizhou Province's digital industry output surpassed 250 billion yuan, marking an 18.3% year-on-year increase. This positioned Guizhou as one of the most dynamic provinces for digital economy growth and a vital hub for the "Eastern Data and Western Computing" initiative.

Enterprise-level initiatives are enhancing the practicality and reach of computing power services. Zhang Ping'an, Huawei Executive Director and CEO of Huawei Cloud Computing BU, disclosed that Huawei Cloud's total computing capacity has expanded by nearly 250% compared to the same period last year, while the number of customers utilizing Ascend AI cloud services surged from 321 to 1,714. China's "black land" for computing power is evolving into a global AI computing hub, supporting clients worldwide.

Addressing the question of how to enhance computing power performance and scale under current chip manufacturing constraints, Zhang explained that Huawei can leverage its "holistic integration" advantage. This involves combining technologies across optical communication, networking, and power supply. The strategy focuses on using system-level solutions to compensate for single-point limitations, converting physical space into computing capacity, optimizing bandwidth for processing power, and leveraging energy for computational efficiency. Through cloud-based computing clusters, Huawei aims to achieve economies of scale and improved performance.

At Guizhou Big Data Group's exhibition booth, staff demonstrated their independently developed computing power scheduling platform, which has already been established in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. Additionally, the Group's self-developed Guizhou Province AI Large Model Application Development Public Service Platform has completed the localized deployment of 10 open-source large models and opened API interfaces to over 70 government and enterprise units, making services more intelligent and convenient.

Digital technology's true worth ultimately emerges when applied in specific use cases. At this Big Data Expo, scenario-based innovations that closely address needs and resolve genuine pain points have garnered significant attention.

At the low-altitude economy exhibition area, staff from Geovis Technology demonstrated their intelligent low-altitude flight application platform. The company's proprietary all-domain intelligent UAV dispatch network enables unified flight management across a single system, applicable in scenarios such as mine supervision, flood season inspections, and fire emergency response.

At GeTui's exhibition booth, a one-stop AI application solution attracted numerous visitors eager to experience its capabilities. An exhibitor from the traditional manufacturing sector commented, "We manage over 800 products with significant cost fluctuations and dispersed quotation data. Each quoting process is laborious and inefficient. Building a quotation system with AI could dramatically boost our efficiency."

The long-term development of the digital economy would not be possible without open ecosystem collaboration. At this Big Data Expo, the keen interest in cooperation among enterprises and the convergence of industry consensus have brought the vision of ecosystem synergy into sharper focus.

Many enterprise representatives stated that the digital economy can only achieve greater progress by moving beyond isolated innovations and fostering a robust cluster effect. With the continued implementation of national strategies such as "Eastern Data and Western Computing," coupled with companies' steadfast commitment to technological innovation and ecosystem openness, the digital economy is poised to become a core engine for the nation's high-quality development, securing a more prominent position in global industrial competition.
