From Jan. 7th to 10th, 2020 (local time), the annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nevada, the US. China International Big Data Industry Expo was invited to exhibit as the world’s first national-level expo on big data.

CES has been successfully held 53 times since 1967. This year, the latest technologies from across China, covering industries like 5G, UAV, blockchain, smart home, and e-sports, landed at the convention center, adding a touch of technical novelty to the world-renowned city. Focused on integrating cutting-edge e-technologies and modern living, CES has now become a platform for the world’s leading electronics companies to announce their products, showcase their hi-tech prowess, and envisage future lifestyle. As the largest and farthest-reaching annual exhibition of e-technologies, and a highly-specialized, internationally-influential trade fair, CES brings together consumer electronics manufacturers and core IT companies at the global forefront, allowing them to share their avant-garde ideas and state-of-the-art offerings. Registering over 200,000 visits annually, it also serves as a worldwide trendsetter in technology and development.

CES is a window of the Big Data Expo to the North American markets. At CES 2020, the Expo managed to further enhance its international fame and industrial visibility, attract exhibitors and visitors to its upcoming event, take a page from the CES copybook, and probe into market-oriented international operations. The Expo was also capable of making new friends and telling to a wider audience its brand story, which revolved around such keywords as “Big Data Expo”, “Big Data Avenue”, and “China’s ‘digital valley’”.

Among the members of the Big Data Expo delegation is China Big Data Industrial Observation, a specialized portal and a first-comer at CES. Centered round the theme of Expo 2020 and industry hot topics, the delegation briefed global visitors on the highlights and unique achievements of the past five Expos, and the plans of Guiyang, the host city of the Expo, for big data innovation and development in the coming year.

Since its launch in 2015, the Expo has focused its events on disruptive, sophisticated frontier technologies, aiming to provide guests and visitors with new ideas and plans, new audiovisual delights and technical thrills. Today, it is synonymous with highly specialized exhibitions, high-end forums, high-profile guests and hi-tech experience. The presence of big data flagships at home and abroad, including Google, Qualcomm, Oracle, Alibaba, Foxconn, ZTE, and Huawei, adds prestige to the Expo. Each year, the Expo Forums weave together hot-button global issues and China’s national strategies, staying ahead of the curve while constantly developing original, inspirational topics. The long-term partnership with CCTV Dialogue, among other Chinese and foreign media agencies, helps to spread the “voice of Big Data Expo” far and wide. In 2019, the “Expo Release” Leading Technical Achievement Awards (No.0298) were included in the list of social sciences awards recognized by and filed with the National Office for Science & Technology Awards. For the first time, social sciences awards have been granted to the domestic big data industry.

Since 2015, the Big Data Expo has been graced by heads of world-renowned companies and research institutes, famed experts and scholars, chief scientists, and notable people from all walks of life. The numbers of Exhibition visits and VIPs have grown by nearly 10 times - from 13,000 and 153 in 2015 to 125,000 and 1,574 in 2019. UAV and 5G experience, AI Innovation Competition and big data observation tours have received wide accolade from guests and visitors alike. The Expo has emerged as a mecca for the international big data community. Whatever sector we belong to, the Expo can be a rich source of innovative wisdom and nutrients.

Over the past five years, the Big Data Expo has adhered to “global vision”, “national interests”, “industry roles” and “corporate responsibilities”. Here, talents from all over the world put their heads together over the future trend, form and challenges of the industry. New ideas are seeing the light of day, as the Expo paves the way to big data innovation and integration. Five years since the evolution “from zero to one”, the Expo is now “alive and kicking”. It is a worldwide trendsetter, a messenger of Guizhou’s big data industry, a bonanza of local approaches, knowledge and practices with global applicability.

Guiyang has taken the international gala in stride. So far, the city has given shape to an integrated industry chain, spanning big data infrastructure and platforms, data analysis and processing, data applications and services, data exchange, and relevant laws and regulations. Thanks to big data, the economic backwater in China’s west is “overtaking on a bend”. For six consecutive years, Guiyang has come out top in growth rate among provincial capitals across the country. It has literally shot to fame as a “global city of big data”.

As the quinquagenarian CES swoops the five-year-old Big Data Expo into its arms, we will stay tuned on a friendship which defies age and geography. The glow of youth reflects itself on an avuncular smile, while industry-wide prestige opens doors to future possibilities. With the help of CES, the Expo can not only spread the “experience of the Big Data Valley”, but also help Guizhou claim the limelight on world stage.
